Composing music for a song in inter-hall dramatics in my second year, and finding that Shayak Banerjee is singing my song once the play completed! That's nice, I can be the next Pritam given a chance.

2. Working hard on Java assignments and software engineering course, and finding my name at the top among all my batchmates (Yeah! batchmates only, no seniors or juniors). That time I even beat Siddhartha, the quintessential topper of all exams in all class.

3. Spending time with her at the Rail Museum, Delhi. That's a nice experience I had.

4. Traveling all along to Kathgodam alone. The weather that day was superb!

5. When I was in school, I used to top the class except two occasions, one of them is at the board exam. Topping the chart never gave me pleasure, except once. When going to class VII from VI, I stood first, beating Rony and Saikat. I remember, when I was going to the class-teacher (it was Anil Sir that day), all my friends sitting next to me was clapping like anything. But when we look at the bigger prospective, its all about staying happy and conquering all the problems. That way, you can show the world that you have a positive attitude and you are not afraid to face any kind of problems. The more you face problems, the more you become tougher, both mentally and physically. This realization has crept into my mind of late. So the gang comprised of 4 people: Rahul, Deepak, Mohit and me. Whole of the puja holidays were spent at the green soothing valleys of Gangtok. We started on 28th of September. Went there by a luxury deluxe bus since train tickets were not available. That was a awesome journey. All of its tyres got punctured and all in all it took around 13 to 14 hours to reach Siliguri, 3 hours more than the normal time.

We hired a SUV from Siliguri and it took around 4 hours to reach Gangtok. It was 29th evening. After
a search of 30 minutes we got a hotel. It was Bhaichung Lodge, little bit away from the gangtok downtown. That night spent out quite silently.

On 30th morning, we did the sight-seeing. Seven points were there. Rumtek Monstery was the most famous of them. Rest are Tibetology Institute, Ganeshtok, Tashi-View Point etc. It took the whole day to view all these. And the night was spent at 'Time-Out', One of the famous pubs of Gangtok. Uffff !! That was my first experience at a pub. I had a wonderful time there.

1st of october was a disaster. We could n't get up early in the morning. That's why cancelled the plan of going to Nathula-paas, the indo-china border, around 55 kilometers from Gangtok. So, we spent the whole day in the hotel watching television. And arranged for the next-days trip to Gurudongmar Lake.

On bapuji's birthday, 2nd october early in the morning, we set out for Gurudongmar Lake. The last night we were trying to arrange for both Yumthang and Gurudongmar Lake but the tour organizers forbade us to go to Yumthang. According to them, during this time of the year, ice is very difficult to find there. So we opt for only Gurudongmar Lake. It is a 2-day-one-night journey. Once you book the whole tour, you dont even need to spend penny for your foods. The travel agencies will bear that. Off course the charge for this trip is big. For a Tata Spacio (or any other sport-utility-vehicle), they will take around Rs 10,000/-. So ... we started around 10 in the morning. A big Tata Spacio and only four passengers. So that was a cool journey. Throughout the way, rivr tista went with us. Those huge terrains, waterfalls.. We started playing Antakshari. Around half of the way we kept on singing. It was a nice exprience. The city 'gangtok' comes in East district. and Guru.. lake comes in North district. You see, even Sikkim's districts are named in such a way that it wont create a trouble for remembering them: North dist, south dist, east dist and west dist.. Around 1:30 pm came Mangan, north district headquarter. It is almost 100 kilometers from Gangtok. We took our luch thre. It was so simple yet so good, so tasty.. Half an hour or so rest there. The journey started again. "Border Roads Organisation was always with us". Theis slogans were seen every now and then. Next kasba on the way was "Chungthang". From this point the road was bifurcated. One went to Yumthang via Lachung and the other to Gurudongmar Lake via Lachen. We took the second one. The weather was getting cold outside.

Ohh !! I forgot to mention about the falls. On the way, a fall came which is of 160 meters of hight. Sorry for not uploading its image. That was one of the wonderful sight i ve seen so far in my life. We took at least 5/6 photographs of the single waterfall. Another famous fall was Seven-sister's fall. I dont know where from the name came. Whenever a fall came, we stopped the car. Actually we had to. Their beauty was irrestible each and every time. After seeing aronund 7 to 8 natural falls in the way, we came to Thangu at around 5:30 in the evening. My god !! Why the weather is so cold here !! Temperature there nmust be at least 1o degrees less than that of gangtok.

That night was so cold. Thank god, we got a fire-place around. Having a cup of tea in your hand and sitting just in front of fire-place with your friends. What else do you need in life ?? We ordered for "Thukpa", sikkim special dish as our dinner. But unfortunately that was not served. Our driver Furdeng bhaaiya seems to be pretty cool. After an early dinner, we all went to bed before 8 since we have to get up early in the morning. So .. Good night friends. I am going to sleep.

Okay friends... Then came the morning of 3rd october. All of us got ready within 5:30 in the morning. The lake was still 2 hours of journey from there. This time i noticed the outside scenary has been changed completely. No more terrains and greenish mountains anymore. Rather it seems barren lands, more like a plateau. Flat land which is spread in all directions and road is coming in between. Bricks and stones were seen here and there. Since we were approaching the indo-china border (though it was 100 km or so away from there too), that area had a lot of army camps. We went through three military check-posts. Now about my health condition. I started vomitting and keep on vomitting intermittently. We were approaching to ice. Yes !!! Around 7 came the Lake. More than its beauty, its area astonished me. The whole area of the lake is more than 5 square kms. People say it doesn't freeze completely even in extreme cold.

We spent more than 2 and half hours there. The area was even lacking oxygen. I think thats understandable since the height is 17,500 feets !! The lake is sacred to both Hindus and Buddists. The ice-clad mountains seemed so close to that spot, yet they were so far. After taking a handful of pictures, we set out for our hotel around 10 am. After a long striding lengthy travel of almost 8 hours, crossing the villages Thangu, Lachen, Chungthang and Mangan, we reached Gangtok around 7 in the night. That night was spent at Hotel Priyadarshini. Aahh !! a long journey of two days came to an end.

On 4th morning, we set out for Nathula. But in the way, i came to know we couldn't go upto nathula since we couldn't manage the paas last night. Nathula is around 50 kilometers from Gangtok. But we went upto Baba-Mandir. Its a famous hindu temple there. This time the weather was tolerable. After half an hour at Baba-temple, we came to Tshangu-Lake. Due to Yak-business (clad in a lepcha-dress and then photo-shoot on a Yak), that area was very much dirty. As usual, we took some photos and left the place. In between we had our breakfasts with Momos. Yuummy !!

We came back our hotel around 3 pm. That night was spent window-shopping in the Gangtok markets. My friends bought some cool T's. Had our dinner at a ravishing restaurant. Sorry, I forgot its name.

Thus we reached the end of our jouney. The day of 5th arrived. Now the only work left is to see the Gangtok township and then leave for Kharagpur. We took a tour of the Gangtok Ropeway, which was inaugurated very recently, in the year 2003 if i remember properly. It had 3 terminals. Ganesh-tok at the top, Sikkim Assembly house in the middle and gangtok bazzar at the bottom. After having a light lunch, we set out for Siliguri. Bbye bbye Gangtok .. We will come back here soon... Tata ..

We set out for Siliguri around 2 in the noon. It would take around 4 hours to reach there. Rangpo, the town which is the gateway to sikkim is around 40 kilometers away from there. The return journey was very comfortable. The roads were well-maintained. We landed at Siliguri after the sunset. i came to know Siliguri is in Darjeeling district. Before i thought its in Jalpaiguri district. Siliguri-New Jalpaiguri distance is 8 kilometers. We came to NJP around 6.

We have to board down saraighat-express, scheduled time of departure from NJP is 1:05 in the night. That night was spent at the second-class waiting room having chats and discussions amongst us. The topics included everything starting from our trip to world-war II and modern India. The night passed away so fast. The train came at its scheduled time. After an initial rush, we found our seats. Howrah-bound suprfast express through Malda-Farakka-Bolpur-Barddhaman reached howrah station around 1:30pm. None of us had a meal last night and not even in the morning. So we went to the Food-Plaza straightway.

After 1 hour or so at the howrah station, we caught up a Kharagpur-bound local train. Reached KGP at 5 in the evening and hired a taxi. We returned home sad but happy. Sadness because such a wonderful tour came to an end all of a sudden and happiness because our KGP-dont-care-type life is going to resume soon.

Cheers friends. Our tour is completed. And so is this blog. So .. go back to your work ..

At Last Over ...

Today i gave the last exam of my engineering life(hopefully). January 9 is going to be one of the unforgettable days of mine. Got a job offer from FreeScale Semiconductor. The company recruited me as a software engineer. They came here both for hardware and software recruitment. Recruited 7 ppl (4 in S/W and 3 in H/W). Most of them are Matkas. Whatever!! A job means a big relief.

9 Jan:
The Company straightway shortlisted 13 ppl from their CVs. No written test as such. I couldn't expect that. So my CV was not prepared. Requested them, handed over the CV and got my time after 6:15 pm.

I had to attend a Arijit Bishnu lecture from 5pm. went there at 5:20 wearing formals, so that just after the class gettign over i could attend the interview. Came to the TNP (Training N Placement) cell exactly at 6:15 and saw my number was yet to come. One friend Ravi Handa helped to make the tie-knot. Thats a big-big issue. To knot a tie properly. My time came at around 6:45. I was in a carefree attitude. So my interview went peacefully. I was asked more of HR questions. Some networks fundamentals, to write C-code for reversing a string, to write truth-table for a 3-input XOR-gate, Routing algorithms in Networks. Some of them i answered convincingly, for some i gave some vague answers. All in all, the interviewer was pleased. He told me to meet them at Alumni Gueest House at 7:45 pm. I was satisfied with my performance. Was my first interview actually, since i messed up quite knowingly in the IBM interview.

The second round of interview was mostly HR-based. Was asked questions like: why ur CGPA is so low? How do u see urself 5 years from now? What's ur background? What are ur hobbies.. etc. I was asked to fill the company form. Returned home with a happy mind. Midway had my dinner at Vegies with Kamal, one of my close pal and batchamte at Kharagpur.

10 Jan: Came to see my name in the notice-board early in the morning. Was so happy!! Collected the company T-shirt. Congrats from all friends started coming. That day was a full booze-day for me. Had a peg of bear in the lunch at Little Sisters, another famous restaurant at KGP. The night was a gala treat for me. Gave my bloody friends a hoo-haa treat comprising of Smirnoff, Chichen Pakora, Mumphali, Finger Cheaps, bhujia and so many other stuffs. I was totally out that night and at the same time happy too.

11 Jan:
My parents along with brother and sister came here to spend some time. Booked Hotel Park for them. They arrived at the Jungle around 7 in the evening. Had dinner with them at Billo's restaurant. My brother came to my room that night.

12 Jan:
Had usual 1-2 classes in the morning. My parents came to know about my last night's booze-party. But i was exempted from any punishment. Why? Since the ladka had grown up. He is not a kid any more. This was my mom's argument. So nothing happened. They had a usual walkings in the IIT-campus. Finally they went to hotel and left that before 7 in the night. My dad rather booked two retiring rooms at KGP station. We were planning to go somewhere (one of Ghatsila/Digha/Chandipur) next morning. I stayed at my hostel room (RP D336) that night and confirmed them i will be at the station early in the next morning. Watched SHIKHAR (An Ajay Devgan Starrer, John Matthew Mann film) that night.

13 Jan:
Went to KGP station within 8:15. Ghatsila train (Ispat Express) was scheduled to depart KGP at 8:35. More info about Ghatsila can be found here. Reached Ghatsila around 10. It was 100 km from KGP. Burudihi dam was the main attraction there. The 30 minutes paddle boating was really enjoyable. But food was a big problem there. Whatever!! Everything about a city can't be good.

This seems to my second longest blog. We came back from Ghatsila next morning. Reached KGP around 12. Had lunch at KGP railway canteen. I came to my hall, rest including my brother went home. Today i am quitting here. Will come back with more interesting blogs soon. Watched three movies this night. 'If only', 'Neel n Nikki' and 'The Fugitive'. The last one was superb, Harison Ford in the lead role. 'If only' a bit of shentoo type, and 'Neal n Nikki' is the most bogus one. I cant think of a movie just being shot at USA's and UK's without having any story in it. Placement season going to start just 6 days from now. I know what's written on my fate. A whole lot of GPL's before getting hold of anthing.

A big wastage

Just watched Collateral. IIT-Kharagpur life is certainly going to end next year. End-sem approaching so fast, still i am in a brutal condition. I bought a camera (Kodak KB10) on the eve of Diwali, hoping to get some snaps of this fine institute where i spent 4 and half years till now. I am not sure how many months more i ve to stay here. Two projects pending, one MTech project, another Design Lab project. In both i ve done little work which is not enough to fetch me a pass grade. Whatever. Be cheerful. Thats what i am doing. Watched 3 movies the day before yesterday. Original Sin, The Mask of Zorro and Kyon ki. The last one, a bollywood film starring Salman and Kareena. i think i should stop here and read some Transact-SQL stuff.

Some Snaps ..

Actualy, i was unable to study. Patna College and another one performed well. Had some usual travellings inside the campus after that. At night one fashion show was there, but the volunteers over there were not allowing students to get inside. So... Had some foods in the Mall, made for the fest. These are quite similar to the IIT-KGP fest. KGP also host a show called Fine-frenzy, a fashion parad show where people from differnet colleges participate. That night an event called 'Dandiya' was held. But since only couples were allowed to enter there and you see a batchelor person like me could not attend that... To sustin the interest i believe, i should quit now. After BS city, the weather became little hot, since the sun had already risen. I wanted to have a little sleep, went for it since the upper birth was completely free. Ordered for the lunch after i got up. The food was good. Forgot exactly what was served, but it was purely vegeterian-food. Railway-food, prepared from the pantry-cars gurantee you it will digest properly and at the same time it was tasty too. I took one novel 'Alchemist' by 'Paulo Cohelo' with me but could not read more than 5/6 pages. The train was still crossing through Jharkhand. I was repenting 'had i had a camera in my possession'? Kaash mere paas ek camera hota? I wanted to take some snaps of outside. In the mean time, we were informed the train had been running late half-an-hour. The train came to Gaya. I ve a very close friend 'Golu' aka 'Ashutosh' from gaya. I am runnig out of words. Mughal sarai came. Whoever has gone over UP, must have an experience how people over there cheat. One guy, having ordinary second-class ticket came in our sleeper coach and seat comfortably. When the TTE charged him for not having proper ticket, he said, he is the "brother" of so-and-so person, who is the head TTE of Deluxe express. The TTE's finally had to leave him. Quite fine an excuse!! Those people descended at Mughal-Sarai. At this station, i had some chat with my fellow-passengers and came to know that the fruit 'guava' aka 'piara' in bengali, aka 'aamroot' in hindi is called 'pijuli' in Oriya. Good funda. Only 2 stoppages from there the Kanpur Central railway station. Mirzapur and Allahabad. At Mirzapur, the typical UP'ians boarded the train and went to occupy the upper births straight-way. Allahabad came after 1 and half-hour from Mirzapur. I think i m depicting a monologue. All right. In between Allahabad and Kanpur, somewhere i had my dinner with Anda-biryani, served from the pantry-car itself. That food was good too. Around 9:15 in the night i packed up everything. Train reached kanpur central around 10 in the night.
The weather was not so cool as i was expecting. Already had the information that 'tempo' is available to go to the IIT, which take minimal charges compare to the 100/- bucks demanded by the taxis and autos. So hired for one ricksha first which came to a place called 'parad', from where i got a tempo to go to the IIT-K. The IIT is around 16 kms from the Kanpur central railway station. It took around 45 minutes to reach there. The Kanpur city is not bad either. A decent city life exists outside IIT itself in contrary to IIT-KGP, where i belong.

The city has one multiplex, some good restaurants, couple of plazas too. Saw 2/3 universities in the way too. At last came the IIT-K main gate.

Saw the 'Antaragni' poster outside. So and so sponsors. But not a single sound outside, i mean near the main gate, i couldn't hear a single sound of a fest. In the end it turned up, the main fest arena is quite far from the gate. That night (21st of Oct) some rock-band was performing. Those usual rock songs 'we will rock u', some 'Enrique' stuffs. Though i dont listen to rock frequently, i know the names atleast. Had a long walk from the gate to the fest-arena and then was informed that 'Hall7' was the remotest from there. Finally reached 'Hall7'. It was 11:30 in the night. Went to Arindam's room. Even he was quite surprised to see me. Actually even he couldn't believe i would reach there so fast. Had some words exchanged between us, better not mentioned here. Was introduced to his friend Rishabh there. We all were final year dual-degree students of CSE department. Went to the CSE department that night. And since it was already 1 in the night, not a single of the show was going on. All the participants and students were resting here and there. One thing was noticeable. UP girls have average heights of mine. We both got tired after 2 hours of trolling and it was 4 in the night. Came back to his room and had a sound sleep. I will continue later.

Kanpur Trip Continued

The journey to be continued. At tatanagar the train reached in the morning around 6 am. Asked a sardarji whether the train is running at right time or not. And i was informed the train arrived exactly at its scheduled time. 'Purshottam Express' must be the first choice for all the passengers in this route because of its hoo-haa punctuality!! Anyway, had some usual stuffs inside the train, like having washes, then having tea. It was around 7:30 in the morning. Train was running through Jharkhand. Couple of steel factories were visible. You must be knowing that Jamshedpur region is famous for iron-ore.One of the largest steel factories ibn India (TISCO, made by Jamshedji Tata is at Tatanagar. The weather was quite fine outside. It was raining in drops. If you stand just in front of the door, you will simply feel COOL. After couple of hours the next stoppage 'Purulia' came. That means the train has crossed Bengal twice and went to Jharkhand twice. The time was running fine. Had some chats with my co-passengers. One TIbetian was there. Just get to know about him since he was reading a novel, of which i dont recognize the fonts. Then i came to know that he is from Tibet. After residing so many years he even understand a bit of hindi too. Whatever !! Next came Bokaro Steel City.I have at least 10 friends from this BS City. So was thinking 'Duniya bahot i chhota hain'. I reached here within a night. OK . i m not going to bore you further. Will continue the blog after some time .

Kanpur Trip

I want to share my Kanpur trip with you viewers. This was my first trip alone for a night. Initially, i used to be with my families or friends. So my mind was filled of thrill(because i m going to a new place), kind of fear(might get robbed in the train, because so many news turned up in the newspapers in every week), might loose some of my stuffs, some accident might occur. But in the end, it was well enough to be cherished as one of my memorable journeys. I want to post the idea vividly in the net. So here it goes.

17 th Oct: Just came back from home after a week-long puja vacation. Had made the plans to go to IIT-K there. Saw the time-table and found going by Purshottam would be the best option.

18 th Oct: Enquired in the reservetion counter inside our insti itself about the reservation. Came to know that only 'tatkal scheme' can provide me the seat on that train. Since only 2 days were left. Because i was planning to leave KGP on 20th Night(Actually its 21st night, since the train was at 3:45 am in the morning) and to return on 23 rd in the afternoon. Since oracle ppt was scheduled on 23 rd evening itself and i didn't want to miss that.

19th Oct: Did the reservation in the Purshottam express from KGP to Kanpur just after the class finished at 9:30. Got to know that i have to book for the whole journey from Puri to New Delhi i.e. the source and destination station of the said train. Whatever. That took some extra (around 250/- more) money. But when you are going to meet a childhood friend of yours after a so long time, then money doesn't matter.

Since i dint have enough money, went to the PNB (Punjab National Bank) that night and bought some healthy amount expecting a helluva expenditure in the coming 5/6 days. And one thing, on my way back i smoked 2 gold-flake (with filters) completely. Since it was raining in cats and dogs, it was quite necessary to have some smokes to keep myself warm. Whatever, had 2/3 e-clairs to do away with the smell that comes out of mouth once you smoke. When came back near Lallu hall, saw due to heavy downpour, the streets are already overflowing with water. Why not get myself drenched for sometime? I cobbled through the street. Reached RP and found myself quite fine even after 5/6 hours.

20 th Oct: This morning i did the return reservation too. The ticket was of Kalka Mail, expected time of departure from Kanpur central station is 2:55 pm on 23 rd of October. Fine it is . I could attend the morning class too on monday, which i have been bunking for the last three weeks.
The classes got over. Had lunch, and watched some stupid laughter challenge episodes. Came the evening. Had the snax. Since it was raining continuously, i could not make my way out. I was getting restless. Once it stopped for some time, went to swaraj travels and booked a taxi for that night. As advance they took 50/- bucks and the rest 50/- bucks after the taxi driver drop me at the railway staion. Okay, that seems pretty fine.
Came back home. Watched some video. Again checked my resev. status on the net at this link . This time saw resv chart has been prepared. Checked the returning status too. Damn!! That is still as before. WL30. Dont know what will happen.
The rains finally stopped for a longer time. Went to the Tech Market. Bought some journey stuffs. A chain-lock, a towel(since mine was already wet.), a pair of sandals, some soap-paper, one ponds, some foods, cheaps. After all, first journey. Shouldn't take any risk.
Started packing after getting back from there. Packed everything. Took two pull-overs. Couldn't manage the camera from Raviraj. Its all-right. Watched Gupt with Aayush. The time was then already 12 in the night. Had plans to have a little bit of sleep, but gave it up since that could be risky, because i might miss the train. So did some stuffs on the net. Like reading news, checked status once again. This time i found return status was WL28. has been decreased by two. According to the law of proportion of time, by the end of sunday afternoon, my seat should have been confirmed. So i feel a little happy.
The time was passing fast. I ironed one jeans which i was planning to wear that night. It was around 1:30 in the night, i packed up everything. Went to the security counter whether the taxi has come or not. NO!! Nothing was there. Again came at 2:30, still the same situation. That time, even the rains have been doubled up. I thought all my efforts would be in vain if i could not manage a rickshaw within 30 minutes. The security-guard there helped me a lot. He gave me his umbrella. It was 2:45 in the night. Went to the main rickshaw stand. Luckily found two rickshaws. Pursuaded them my situation "i need a rickshaw only if the taxi not coming". Its all right with them. Came to hostel room, picked the luggage, had a final call to 'My Durga', locked the room and proceeded to the gate. Not a single of my wingies was awake that time. Who cares! Saw the rickshaw already arrived. Didn't like to waste any time and boarded that straight-way. The station was not near either. Through the muddy roads, the rickshaw-walla reached me the station within half an hour. Gave him 50/- rupees. Actually he should get that. Saw the name 'Purshottam Express' glowing in the station time-table. The weather was so rainy, still the train was running at its right time. Quite surprising! Anyway waited for half an hour. Then the train came. huge train indeed. So many sleepers, 5 3-tier AC's 2 2-tier AC's, pantry cars. Whatever! Got the S2-berth no 30 quite easily. It was an upper berth. One passenger was sleeping there. Wake him up. The train left KGP around 4, actually exactly at 4am. Quite nice. Thus i started the journey first time in my life alone. I was so much thrilled inside, i couldn't even explain. So many thoughts were coming in my mind. I told about that before. The next stoppage would be Tatanagar early in the morning. I needed a sleep. So went for it. Will continue the journey and the rest of the story in my next blog.

Room Shift

What shall i write here now?
